Suggestions?

I'll admit. I am one of those mothers that lets Logan watch TV all day everyday. I guess I feel like it is the easiest solution for me to keep him busy while I work on homework, cook meals, do laundry, and do the usual everyday household chores. These days, I hardly ever see my husband. Literally. For example, our schedule today goes a little something like this: Austin has class from 8-9am, he comes home to shower then I shower and get ready for class, I go to class from 11-130, drop Austin off at school at 2 and I won't see him again until 8pm--just in time to start getting Logan ready for bed. Five days a week are packed like this. And that doesn't count him going out of town for a couple of days at a time for medical school interviews. Within the next 4 weeks, he will be attending 5 more interviews and shortly after that we will have our 2nd child. As you can see, I am home with Logan all day until bedtime. So like I said, if I want to get anything done around the house or any school work done, I turn on a show for Logan. Since he has been watching TV a lot, he has become obsessed with trains and monkeys (Thomas the Train and Curious George are his favorites). I need help. How do I break Logan of his TV watching habit and find things for him to do that will keep him busy enough so I can get things done?

I'm sure there's lots of people out there with practical experience - I don't have any yet but, I found "101 Things to Do with Your Toddler" on Pinterest: http://counting-on-me.blogspot.com/2011/05/101-things-to-do-with-your-toddler.html

The downside is that most ideas require some time and supervision on your part, but it's a start. Maybe a box full of some of the ideas listed and then he can go to town. Good luck! I'll be asking you the same question in another year :)

here's a couple ides that I've done with my daughter

-Build a fort together and encourage him to play in it. My daughter played in hers for a couple of hours when i did that.
-Get a large bin and put rainbow rice in there and if you don't already have a bucket and shovel you can always grab one at the dollar store or even use measuring cups and bowls. This is my go-to when my daughter is antsy, but I can't take her outside. If you don't have a back porch. lay a large blanket on the kitchen floor and place the bin on top of it. That way if he spills it on the blanket you can just empty it back into the bin.
-Get washable markers or paint and put your kiddo in the tub to paint. He may give you one whole hour with this one and all you have to do is sit in the bathroom with him and you can do homework.
-Have him help you with chores. Putting away dishes, gathering shoes, etc.
-Find a cheap keyboard (if you don't have one already) and put it at a level he can reach, turn it on and let him go to town!(this one might be best when you are trying to get stuff done around the house and not actually studying)
-Get a large metal pan and some fun magnets and pictures and have him play around with that. He will be more likely to play with it, if it's on the wall. 3M strips!!

I'm sure I have more, but this is what we have been doing lately. Hope something works for ya!
